4. How do we collect your personal information?
We collect your personal information directly from you unless it is unreasonable or impracticable to do so. When collecting personal information from you, we may collect it in various ways including:

6. Employees and contractors
In relation to current employees, contractors and other people such as work experience students, we may collect additional personal information such as personal CVs, references, financial details (bank account, superannuation account, tax file number), health information and emergency contact details. We may also conduct background checks, including of criminal records, before offering you a position with Signify IP.
7. Our Site
Site User Tracking Experience
We may use tracking software to review and improve your experience of our Site, Surveys and landing pages.
Google Analytics may collect data about our Site traffic via Google Advertising cookies and anonymous identifiers.
Data collected via these Google products is not linked with any personally identifiable information you submit while visiting our Site.

When you access our Site, we may send a "cookie" (which is a small summary file containing a unique ID number) to your computer. This enables us to recognise your computer and greet you each time you visit our Site.

If you are in the EU: Signify IP and some of our external service providers may not be in the country where you submitted your personal information. As a result, your personal information may be transferred to countries that have different levels of data protection laws to where you are. Where local data regulations require it, we have put in place security measures for the export of personal information from its country of origin, and made arrangements with those receiving your personal information, that they will put security measures in place and that your personal information is processed in accordance with EU data protection laws.
12. How long do we retain your personal data?
We will only keep your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.
To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorised use or disclosure, and the applicable legal requirements.
By law, we must keep basic information about our customers for five years for Australian tax law purposes.
In some circumstances, you can ask us to delete your data.
In some circumstances we may anonymise your personal data for research or statistical purposes, in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

If the GDPR or similar regulations applies to you because you are in the European Union, you have the following rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data:
